Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me during the two weeks of I’m A Scientist! It was an incredibly fun two weeks for me, and it is an awesome feeling to have won. I was up against some stiff competition and between the 5 of us we covered a hugely diverse range of science. Sian, Christie, David, and Dan, you guys were great and I’ve actually learned a lot about mitochondria, space, nutrition, and the universe.
The live chats were the most fun part of the competition for me, and I tried to sign up to as much of them as possible. I did have to rearrange some labwork to fit in the live chats, but that’s part of the beauty of being a scientist – I can be flexible with my time. And I’m so glad that I did! The live chats were hectic and chaotic and I applaud the mods for keeping everything running smoothly. The breadth of questions from the students was amazing. I forget how many burning questions kids can come up with and it reminds me to keep the same spark of curiosity alive during my career!
I am a bit sad now that the event has come to an end, but it’s not quite finished for me just yet. I have a very exciting project to carry out with the prize money and I’m already talking to a few people to see if they can help me get this webcomic off the ground. I hope it will inspire budding young scientists to go for it and do what they love.
Finally, thank you so much to everyone from the team at I’m A Scientist, the moderators, the Thallium scientists, and of course, the students, for making this such a fantastic two weeks.
