Question: Are you worried as a pharmacist about the potential shortages of anitbiotics?

Yes I am very worried, although there is a lot of antibiotics available for people its the over use of them that is causes the problems as resistance builds up very quickly. A few years ago I spoke to a lecturer at my university who worked in antibiotic discovery many years ago and its sounds amazing how they take soil samples and and extract the bacteria to synthesis the a drug from certain types of soil. To find the types of soil in which antibiotics can be extracted from and scaled up means she had to travel all over the world to find them. I know many drug companies are heavily researching antibiotics and it is a fascinating area of research.
