Personally I think we’re closer to knowing more about what lives in the Mariana Trench than in space. The depth of the trench is so much smaller than the size of space we could explore. We’ve sent humans to the bottom of the trench and brought back samples of specimens, we’ve got video imagery as well. While we are nowhere near close to knowing everything that lives in the trench, I think we can achieve that goal faster than we will understand what’s in space!

We are a very long way from knowing everything that is in space. There is still a lot of exploration to know what is in the deep ocean, but I think that is not as hard as exploring the whole of the universe.

So I guess it depends on what you mean by ‘space’ and what you mean by ‘know’. Understanding the ocean will certainly help us think about feeding the planets population in the future.
