I was around 7 or 8 when I was obsessed with a whole series of books about science. It had questions like “why do stars twinkle” and “why is the sea blue” and I couldn’t stop reading them, my mum had to get me the entire series!

I’ve always liked science in general. Even when I was 7 or 8 I had a puzzle which had the names of the bones on, the muscle groups, and then the skin. As I got older, I started looking up genetic diseases and trying to find patterns. I didn’t know I wanted to be a researcher though until I was 19/20. I had always thought I wanted to do medicine and be a doctor, but I only wanted to be like a character called House MD (tv show starring Hugh Laurie) rather than an ordinary doctor, which is really hard to get to and takes a very long time! Research was just as good, so went to that instead!

I was always interested in science, but at each stage have decided to do more when it was time to make a decision. Each time I have been pleased with the outcome!
