In my field, some top neuroscience research is being carried out in America, so it would be fantastic to be a part of that. Not that there’s anything wrong with the research here in the UK, but there are a lot more researchers in America with access to cutting-edge technology! However I’m not sure I would live there permanently. Personally I would be happy to stay in the UK for research into dementia. 🙂

I think I would like to take a different tack – I would like to go to a country that has issues with food safety to try and help them make improvements to improve the situation for the population there. At the moment there are real issues with rice growing in South East Asia – there is a drought which means that there are likely to be rice shortages over the coming weeks and months. I would love to take some of the predictive tech that we use to help them provision for the times when they are likely to have poor harvest. If they do not, what usually happens is they export food until there are shortages – by which time it is too late!

In terms of where the best people work on Mitochondria (my research specialty) I would have to go to Germany or Sweden. They are doing some fantastic research there on finding out how the mitochondria work. However, I would love to work in Canada someday. Somewhere not too hot, not too cold but with friendly people!

Saying that, I travel to Europe a lot with my running. I love the food, drink and the people. Vienna would be my top choice in Europe!
