I’m so happy to hear you’re interested in becoming a scientist! I can’t answer about your GCSEs and A-levels, because I took different qualifications from my Canadian school. You should ask your teachers/parents for help with looking up university brochures to get an idea of what GCSEs and A-levels you need for university.
To be a research associate, I took an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience (BSc, bachelor of science), which was 3 years long and graduated with a 2:1. In rare cases, you can do a PhD straight after that but I thought my grades weren’t competitive enough so I decided to do a Master’s degree (MSc) in Neuroscience as well. I got a Distinction in that which was really good. During my MSc I applied and was successful for my PhD position, and I passed that after 3.5 years with a doctorate. After I passed my PhD, I got this job as a research associate. I hope that helps!
