I wanted to be a photojournalist and have my stories/images featured in the National Geographic magazine. I quickly realised that wasn’t the life for me when I came to actually applying for university degrees. I thought about being a doctor for some time, but decided I couldn’t handle the emotional side of it. I still wanted to help people, so I thought studying science was a good way of benefiting society.

I wanted to be a ballerina. I wasn’t that good and so I am glad to have taken a decision at 15 to make sure that I worked hard in school so that I had lots of choice!

I wanted to be a doctor, and then an interior designer, then back to doctor again! It was during GCSEs that I finally worked out I didn’t want to be a doctor as it didn’t seem interesting enough, but didn’t know what else I could do. I studied classics first because all my friends were going to Uni and it was a subject I was alright at. Science came later and I’ve not looked back since!
