Mostly it is not so much about what is difficult but about fitting it all in. There is not enough time and too much to do. Of course, as I am a ‘glass half full’ person I see this as an opportunity.

That is not to say everything is easy – but as a scientist I take the challenge where things are hard and use my investigative skills to work out the best approach – it is a skill that serves me well and could do the same for you!

The most difficult thing is learning how to deal with setbacks! Setbacks such as your experiments not working for some reason, or your paper getting rejected. Or maybe you spent a lot of time writing to apply for some grant money and that got rejected too. Being able to deal with the rejection in a calm and logical manner is hard and it’s something that gets easier over time. It’s a very helpful skill to be able to move on past the obstacles in front of you, and figure out an alternative route instead of getting all upset and doing nothing.
